Help me with skates please?
I'm going to be getting new skates soon and I was looking at Jackson Competitors with Coronation Ace blade. I was wondering if these would last until I landed my axel (I just started working on loops and flips). Thanks (:
Save your money if you're still working on singles. The Competitors are more expensive, and stiffer because the boots are intended for skaters working on doubles. You'll be overbooted, which will slow your progress while you struggle to break in the boots. The break in will be painful as well. The Premiers are even more stiff and can cause injury if you're not strong enough to break them in. (You won't get as much knee bend, which is even more dangerous.
Go with a pair of Jackson Freestyle boots. They're less expensive and they are the appropriate level of stiffness for your level of skating. They will last through axel and into the doubles before you have to upgrade again.
Once you start really jumping, skates break down more quickly, so expect to replace the boots every 8-10 months with regular practice and lessons.
The Coronation Ace blade is fine for your level of skating and it's rated up through doubles, so you're good to go there.
Before you do anything else, go to the pro shop with your coach and get measured, then ask for suggestions based on your current skating level and where you expect to be in the next six months. The pros can give you more personalized advice.
